About To Give up Praying?

Don't give up

Ramola, a poor widow had lost her husband years back. She not only lost her only companion in life, but also all that she had to call her property, by her so-called relatives who overpowered her and seized it from her. There was no help that she could find except the head of the small Village that she lived in.

Unfortunately, the Man was not a good leader. He was selfish and inclined to enjoy life on His own without caring for the needs of his people. When this widow approached him, he turned nothing but a deaf ear to her. She was compelled to get out of his presence every time she went to him, just because he was too busy for her doing nothing at all.

The woman would go silently after trying hard to talk to him. Yet she would return the very next day and would go home without even seeing the face of the judge. This went on for a whole year. Though she was mocked by the people around her, though the judge hated to see her face, though men chased her away mercilessly, though she found no answer for one whole year, she kept persisting. She kept going to him.

Her body might have been weak, but her heart was strong. She was a persistent lady never giving up on what she wanted. She wanted justice and she was going to get it done no matter what.

As days went on this Head of the Village who had neither the fear of God, nor care for the people saw how annoying the widow was and called her to listen to her plea. He did not stop with that. He saw to it that what she wanted was done for her, putting to shame all those who spoke against her, who mocked her and cheated her.

Now, that was just a paraphrase of the parable Jesus mentions in Luke 18.  Jesus tells this to make his disciples understand that they need to be persistent in prayer and not give up.

A selfish Judge could do justice for a widow just because she kept going to him. How much more will we get justice done through persistent prayer, being the Children of God, His chosen ones?

My dear friend, if you are in a situation where you feel justice is not done to you, you don’t have what you should be having, you feel miserable with the feeling of having lost everything in life, may it be materialistic, spiritual, emotional or physical, there is a way you can have what you want, if only if it is not out of God’s will for you.

It is through prayer!

Jesus was a man of prayer, and He wants us to pray without ceasing too. May be we don’t see the results right away, but we will someday, but we just should not give up.

There is nothing we cannot do, we cannot face, if we constantly keep submitting it to God in prayer. What cannot be achieved by any other means can be achieved by fervent and persistent prayer.

If you’ve been praying long enough for something and are about to give up or you have already, let me encourage you my friend, get back on your knees and pray, for there is no other way. And all your prayers are soon to be rewarded. In a way better than you ever imagined or can, for the judge is your heavenly Father who is in favour of you. Keep going to Him. He wants you to persist.

Living The Way God Wants Me To Live

Years back I had this friend, who had a great impact in my life for quite sometime. The impact was sadly negative. Though she was a good person, there was one thing that ruled her that needed a serious change. It was anger. She would lose her temper for no reason and yell at the top of her voice whenever she does.

Being with her always made me like her. I started yelling too so badly like never before and it took so much of time to revert back to normal even after we departed. The reason I got that nature from her was simple. I was always with her, I kept seeing what she did, It got deep into me and I found myself doing what I had been hearing and seeing.

It is the same with anything that we feed ourselves with. I believe every good or bad thing that we do starts with a simple thought in our minds. And I believe our thoughts are mostly based on what enters us through our eyes and ears.

During exam times , I can almost predict my dreams I would have at nights. I would dream of problems, diagrams, theory and even the teacher, For that is what I stuff my head with.

Similarly,

If we are going to keep listening to those word of that song that deviates our minds from the way God wants us to live or from God Himself;

If we are going to encourage those Godless talks/gossip with friends;

If we are going to feed our eyes with pictures that corrupt our minds;

If we are going to watch those scenes that we know we should not be watching;

Or if we are going to do anything that we should not have anything to do with,

Then that is what is going to rule our thought life. They don’t fail to have their work in our minds.

Once these thoughts are conceived start dwelling in our minds, then there is no surprise that, as Paul says, we do what we don’t want to do and we do not do what we want to do.

So my dear friend, if you’re a person struggling to live a life you know you should be living, the way god wants you to live, holy and pleasing unto Him I encourage you to make sure you do the following;

1. Do your best to keep away from those books, songs, movies, talks, pictures or anything that leads you away from you Creator. Make sure they don’t even exist around you, as much as possible, so that you will not be tempted by them all the more.

2. And the best way… Fill yourself with what is good, with the Word of God. God’s Word has power and life. The more we read and meditate on His Word, the more we are inclined to God and do what He wants us to do.

Romans 12.2 says,

Do not conform any longer to pattern of the world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind.

This transformation in our minds can happen only by through the Word of God. By meditating on it day and night.

Once our minds are renewed and our thought life is according to His Word, then living a holy life, a life according to God’s will slowly falls in line.

How do I react to this problem?

problems

How do we react when we feel things are going wrong? We may simply worry about it, unable to carry on even our daily chores properly, or we may sit and analyse the problem, trying to figure out how to tackle it to bring things back to form. That was exactly what I was trying to do that evening, when I felt disappointments flooding in like never before.

Every thing that I thought was going fine was taking a different direction. And suddenly I felt there was no help or support from any side. There was just this sinking feeling that I could not get rid of, all evening.

I thought I had to find out a way to make things right. When I could not find one, I allowed negativity to grip me for a while, letting it take my time and energy, which I could have spent in a fruitful way.

Only later did I come to my senses, finding myself being silly taking up everything on my own head and worrying about it when a had a wonderful choice of going to God, telling Him what just happened, surrendering the problem to Him and simply trusting Him.

I did what I was supposed to do and when I did go to God, He led me to these wonderful verses in Exodus 14: 13-14, which say,

…” Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today.

The Egyptians you see today you will never see again.

The Lord will fight for you. You need only to be still.

It was an amazing experience. I, who was so perplexed and apprehensive about the problems around totally calmed down unbelievably. And I got the answer to my question, ‘what should I do about the problem’. The answer was simple. I just had to stay quiet and be still trusting God, for He was going to fight the battle for me and make everything right in His own way.

Psalms 147.11 says …” the Lord delights in those who put their hope in His unfailing love.”

Yes, He is happy when we trust Him just like how we are moved and are happy when our friend totally trusts us. May be the problems around are huge, the disappointments seem never-ending and the situation is totally hopeless. There is just one solution, which is to surrender it to God and blindly trust Him completely.

It may be our financial conditions that are driving us mad, our future, family, problems, health, work, exams or people. Just name it and I tell you it is nothing for God. He is just waiting for us to give the matter into His hands so that He can work on it. Unless we hand it over to Him, we are not allowing God to work through the problem.

When I tried working out issues myself, nothing good happened, but when I left it to God, everything that seemed like ‘going wrong’, just fell in place. Above all there was this peace of God that was filling my heart so great.

There is just one thing we need to do when there are problems and hopeless conditions around – Be still and trust God, for He is the one who fights for us and make things right.

Joy, Pain, Comfort, Counsel

Having come to the end of this academic year, I just took a few minutes to think about how the entire year had gone.

To me, this whole year has been a period when I went through a lot of tears. The worst part was, I went through it all alone. I cried so much that I sometimes felt my brain would burst out, yet I shared it with no one around, for I did not find anyone to do so.

But then, there was hope! God helped me to turn to Him every time I faced something. And each time He proved Himself so compassionate, understanding and loving, no matter what kind of problem I went to Him with and how many times I went to Him for the same reason.

My God spoke to me every single time, through His Word, right into my situation. There were times I was wonder-struck at the way He spoke the exact thing that I needed and the way He did it every time without fail.

Of course He is God, who knows me inside out, even the deepest secrets in my heart.

When I was totally down, His word alone was my delight. When I thought I’m done and there is no hope for me, He filled me with peace and joy that was so beyond understanding. He not only consoled me, turning my sorrows into joy, but also counselled me each time through His Word and showed me the way out.

There was a time when I felt so pressed by all the work that I had to complete in the college, the exams that were like a terror at that time, the hurts from people around and other small problems adding fuel to these. I really thought I was going to go mad. But His Word sustained me. At that time, God just told me one thing – to rejoice in the glorious riches that He has for me in Heaven, which will never perish and not to worry about these earthly problems which will disappear very soon. (1 Peter 1. 3-6)

His Word turned my focus, from my problems to Him, and filled my heart with the same peace that filled me every time I went to Him.

Today I thank God for everything that I went through, for through it all, He made me understand the power of the Word of God.

This evening, as I was telling one of my friends that I went through a lot of tears this year, she could hardly believe it, for she never felt I was going through any pain. But the truth was, I did go through it. But God, through His Word made me smile in situations when it was not possible a bit and counselled me as to what I had to do. That’s what kept me going.

The psalmist says in Psalm 119.24, “Your statutes are my delight, they are my counsellors.”

How true this verse has been in my life!

Only His Word can bring life when we feel dead, delight when we are depressed and counsel when we are directionless. Praise be to God!

With All Your Heart

It was about 6.30 in the morning. I was walking inside my hostel campus, just like I do most mornings, when my phone started ringing. I picked it up and it was my friend, who needed a small help from me. It was a simple thing that I was asked to do and I told her that I would surely do it for her. Well, the conversation ended right there and I continued walking.

As I thought about the help she wanted out of me, I felt a little lazy to do it and wondered if I should have given an excuse. But immediately, God reminded me that I should not be thinking the way I was thinking.

I just stopped and thought for a while. What if I had needed that same help and the other person felt uninterested to do it? How would I feel if I get to know her mind?

I sure knew the answer for my questions. I would definitely be hurt.

Realising my mistake, I asked God to forgive me for thinking that way and I did what she wanted, as soon as I went back to my room, knowing God knows I’m helping her with all my heart, and He would be happy that His child is doing so.

I Peter 4:9 says, “Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.”

When we are asked for help, by our friends, we mostly agree to do it. But the question is, are we doing it whole heartedly?

When Jesus showed His love by dying on the cross for us, He did it will all His heart, not just on the outside, because His love for us true. Similarly, when we show these small acts of love to others, God wants us to do it without grumbling, that is, wholeheartedly.

Besides giving out what we are asked for, we also should to be willing to help even when they don’t ask for it. All of us know God has told us to do to others what we want them to do.  But it seems to be so difficult in reality.

Nevertheless, embracing the love of Christ and reflecting it in our lives, even in small actions should be our prime aim. For God’s word says that by the love, that we show to others, we will be known as the disciples of God.

So my dear friend, think about it. Are we reflecting the love of Christ in our lives just like how He did? Are we doing our best to show the love of God to the world? Are we doing it with all our hearts?

If not, it’s high time we soak ourselves with the love of God, by meditating on His word and experiencing His love, so that we will be able to give the same love to those around us.

What Next?

It was one of those days, when I felt so down and hopeless thinking about how my future would be. I tried calming myself down, I tried sharing with my friend, but nothing seemed to work. Then I had but one choice – to go to my Creator God in prayer. For I knew, He was the only one who could give me proper guidance and peace. And Behold! True to His faithfulness he opened my eyes, to see how much of hope I have in Him, through the life of Joseph.

Joseph was a young guy who was with his father while his brothers had gone far off to care for their sheep. Suddenly, his dad Jacob asked him to go to his brothers and see whether everything was fine with them. Then Joseph, the youngest of all the brothers then, set out to find his brothers just as his dad had told him to.

He was just fine until he found himself in a place where he did not know which direction to take. He was wandering in the fields not knowing what to do. It was almost like he was lost.

Today, you might be in a similar situation. Wandering in life, without knowing which direction to take. May be you do not know the place you have to be in and the dangers that lie in your way. You may feel you’re never going to make it to a good position in life or that you may miss the destiny that God has for you in this life. You may have very little hope or you’re totally deprived of it. You may be silently crying in your heart without knowing what to do and whom to ask. You may even feel that your life is over and nothing good can happen to you after this.

Well, this was the situation of Joseph. He would have been wandering with so much of confusions in his mind.

But, there was a sudden change in the situation. God sent him help on time. A man found him wandering and asked him about the problem, eventually directing him in the way his brothers had taken.

Joseph did not find that help. But the man found Joseph and guided him. It was clearly a guidance from God.

The God who guided him will guide us too, no matter what our confusions are, He will take charge. When He does lead us, He leads step by step.

Joseph was not directly taken to Pharoah’s house. God led him, one step at a time. He had to cross his brothers’ torture, the experience of slavery, prison etc, before he reached the destiny God had for his life on earth.

If you’re feeling insecure about your future, Cheer up! Just know that God is in control of your life. He has already planned and finished everything regarding your life. You have a hope and a future. Just trust Him as he leads you through.

Am I in the Right Place?

Once Joseph got the guidance, he went and found his brothers. But what happened to him after that? He was ridiculed and insulted. He was thrown into a pit and sold as a slave. He was even about to be killed by his brothers, because they hated him.

May be Joseph thought at that time, “I’m not in the right place. If I hadn’t come here all this would not have happened to me.

But dear readers, that was the place he was supposed to be in. That was God’s will for him. He had a turning point in his life in that very place. His life took a direction that led him to be the governor of Egypt, who saved the people from death during famine.

Even you, who may be feeling you’re not in the right place, take heart! There is a huge blessing that follows every hard time. If you have given your life to God, you don’t have to worry about anything.

Why Should God lead me?

God leads you to a great destiny, simply because He has made great plans for you and has chosen you to give you a great future.

He says, “You have not chosen me, but I have chosen you.” (John 15.16)

Jeremiah 29.11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.”

The God who has promised will definitely fulfil His promise to you, for He is a faithful God.

When Will God Lead me?

God will lead us when we are obedient to Him and do all that he tells us to do, living everyday according to his word.

When Jacob asks Joseph to go to his brothers, he immediately agrees even though he knows that his brothers hate him. Just as he obeyed his father, we are called to obey our heavenly Father.

If we do that, we can blindly put our hope in Him and be still at any storm approaching us and know that He is God over our lives!

Are you in a prison-like situation?

Life doesn’t always go smooth. All of us come across situations, where we feel like we are being punished for no fault of ours.

Joseph was thrown into the prison because he refused to go to bed with his master’s wife, though she compelled him, and sin against God.

Paul and Silas, as they were serving God, came across a servant girl, who was demon possessed, and drove the demon out of her. The masters of the servant girl, who used to earn a great deal of money through her prophesying by the demon ( that was in her), were enraged and dragged Paul and Silas before the authorities. As a result, they were then stripped, beaten and thrown into the prison. (Acts 16.23-23)

These were not fair treatments on these men, who deserved nothing of these.

We may think about it and conclude that it was the fault of the people around them, but then I would like to bring to your notice another noteworthy point.

The point is – It was God’s will for them.

For us, the children of God, even though it is a prison experience that we go through, we can be sure that God is in control and He will allow nothing apart from His will to enter our lives.

Yet, there is a condition. We should be careful to walk blamelessly before God, in obedience to His Word.

Now this is how we know that Joseph, Paul and Silas were in the will of God. Lets see what happens to them after the go into the prison.

Joseph– He interpreted the dreams of two of King’s officials, which eventually led to his calling to interpret the King’s dream, right after which he was made the governor of the entire Kingdom.

Paul and Silas– God used them to save the guard and his entire household, and even baptize them.

Today, if you’re going through a tough situation, you’re not able to bear it and you feel like it’s not you’re fault, don’t worry. I tell you cheer up and be encouraged, for God has something great in store for you through this experience. He will bring you forth as gold out of the furnace.

Even as we go through the problems in exhaustion, we need to look into the lives of these men and learn from them.

During your prison experience:

1. Love Others– Joseph himself was in prison, yet  when he saw the King’s officials sad, he shows his care for them, he asks them what the matter that was concerning them was and gives  the answer for their problem. (Genesis 40.7)

Let us also be like that, showing love to others even at hard times.

2. Pray and Praise God–  ‘About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God.” (Acts 16.25)

What ever may be our problem today, let us pray to God and Praise Him  with all our hearts. This can break open any prison gates as it did in the times of these great men of God.

3. Minister to People– Joseph brought God’s interpretation to the King’s officials. Paul and Silas brought God’s word and salvation to the prison guard and his house hold.

Where ever we are, whatever condition we may be in, God wants to use us to be a blessing to others and to build His kingdom.

When God gave me this message, I did not understand why He was talking about prison experience. But very soon I faced a problem where I found myself unable to bear it. I asked myself why I was facing that a problem when it was something I didn’t deserve at all. However, God’s word helped me through. He helped me to pray and worship Him amidst the problem. He helped me to minister to people and to love even those who I felt were the cause for my dejection.

If God could help me, I’m sure He will help you too!

The Gift of Friendship

Friendship is something that most of us value in our lives. For some, friends are everything. We look up to them not just in happy moments, but also in pain. When we feel miserable and hopeless we long to find this person that we love so much, just to share our hearts out to them. This brings a special joy, a feeling of comfort, to know that there is someone who really cares, someone to listen to what we have to say, and someone to be with us during those bad times also.

A life without a friend is unimaginable.

The bible gives us a wonderful example for friendship. Yes, David and Jonathan.

Here Jonathan was the son of Saul, the king, who was intending the death of David. But we know what happens. Jonathan did not betray his friend in his trouble, but was ready to do anything for him. He helped him escape and  loved him as he loved himself.

If you have such friends, you truly love you, you are blessed

Realize that God-given friends are precious, thank God for them. Let them know how much you love them, help them in their times of need. Appreciate them and encourage them. Most importantly, if your friend is not yet saved, then tell him about the love of Jesus. There is nothing better you can do for him than bringing him into salvation and there is nothing worse that you can do than from keeping him from being saved, when you know the truth.

After all this we still have to accept the fact that no earthly friends can always remain with us. No such love can satisfy us.

This is due to various factors like distance, different situations in their lives, responsibilities etc. Every person is bound by these factors, including us. That is why we cannot always depend on others, neither can we blame them if they are not able to help us.

But we have a beautiful assurance. The assurance that there is one friend who can always be with us. Who can satisfy us with His love. Who is not bound by time or space or anything else. Who went to the extent of dying for us. He is Jesus. He died a horrible death on the cross, so that we may be saved from our sins and have eternal life.

John 15: 14 says, “You are my friends, if you do what I command.”

What else do we need?. The King of Kings and the Lord of Lords wants to be friends with us. Why wait any longer for some other friend. He is the best friend you can ever have. He can understand you completely, for He knows everything concerning you. He delights in listening to you and answering you, because He loves you and calls you His friend.

Let me now turn  you attention to the one condition that He adds to it – We have to obey His command, which is to love one another. Jesus wants us to love everyone just like how He loves us. Paul writes in His letters that if we don’t have love we are nothing. It is through this love that all men know that we are the disciples of Jesus. So let us show love to everyone around us.

Now as we obey Him and accept Him as our friend, there will never be a moment when we will regret being with Him or sharing with Him. His love is the only love that can satisfy us and comfort us in any kind of depression or pain. He is the only person with whom we can share everything.

Once you call Him into your life, He will come in and be with you. He is a faithful God. He will never leave you alone in any situation, even when you’re in the worst of worst situation.

Go to Him in prayer today. And I tell you, the best moments in your life will be the time that you spend with Jesus. He is waiting for you.

Have an enjoyable journey with Jesus!

Overcoming Hurt

“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again. Rejoice.”
Philippians 4:4

Well, I was reading this verse when I was going through a tough time. I couldn’t help, but say to myself ” I do want to be happy and I do want to rejoice in the Lord. But then, my situation seems so pressing that I feel its impossible to do what I actually want to do. I just can’t do anything but sit alone and cry about it.”

I found myself too hurt, too lonely, with no friends around, and the people I thought will help me made things even worse for me.But that’s when I decided to go to the feet of God and cry out to Him, asking Him for help for coming out of this hurt.

Here are few things that God reminded me to do, that day as I cried to Him, which helped me. He knew my exact problem and gave me the right solution for coming out of the pain that I was in.

1. Go to God, Cry to Him, Ask Him for help.

It is good to talk to people when we are hurt, but then many times it doesn’t help. And there is just one person who can understand us completely, which is God.  So run to Him first. Go ahead and let Him know your pain. There are no secrets between you and God.

2. Forgive.

Ask God to help you forgive the person who has hurt you, for we pray ” forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.”
We will not be forgiven if we don’t forgive others. Always remember, no one has hurt us more than how much we have hurt God. If God forgives us, we should be all the more willing to forgive each other.

3. Pray to God and Thank Him

Philippians 4:6
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”

Don’t be anxious about everything. Just let God know your requests and thank Him for all that He has done for you. The more we thank God, the more we will be blessed and will enable us realize how good the Lord has been in our lives. Thanking Him works like magic.

4. Be Gentle

Philippians 4.5
“Let you gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.”

When we are hurt, we tend to hurt others, especially the person who has wronged us. But here the Bible teaches us that we need to be gentle. This is possible when we really forgive them, which we can, if we constantly keep asking for God’s help.

5. Know that the Lord is near.

The same verse (Philippians 4.5) says that the Lord is near. Even as we are hurt and long for love, we should remember that the God, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort is near us and that He will comfort us with His love, so that we can comfort those who are in trouble with the comfort that we receive from God.

6. Fix your thoughts on Jesus

Philippians 4:8
“Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, what ever is admirable, if anything id excellent or praise worthy, think about  such things.”

All these things put together can only denote Jesus. We do know that most of our hurts seem amplified by our thoughts. We keep thinking about them over and over again, eventually making it appear bigger than what it really is. Sometimes we think of things that do not even exist and fall prey to hurt. But, when we fix our thoughts on Jesus, there is an end to all these unwanted hurts that ruin our feelings.

7. Get busy for God

There is no time to sit and worry about small things when we have a higher calling, a calling from God. Let our focus be on God. As Paul says, “put into practice whatever you have learned from me”, let us be more considerate of the Word of God and the work of God, keeping ourselves available for God and living pure lives before God and man.
